Automatic gate operators are very slow, and by the time they close a gate, they often let in a car behind an authorized car. If a car does not have a remote control or access card, entry should be strictly prohibited; unauthorized entry poses a danger to other authorized residents.
The closing speed of an automatic gate operator is regulated by codes to avoid accidents, and its mechanical or electronic alteration is prohibited by law. However, one of the solutions to prevent a second car from entering without authorization is to install a barrier operator in front of a gate. These barrier operators are able to have much shorter closing times than automatic gate operators.
In this setup, when an authorized car enters, the new barrier operator will close almost instantaneously, preventing a second unauthorized car from entering the complex while the gate makes its slow closing stroke. This is a solution to the problem posed above, but an imperfect one, because there are also intrepid drivers who manage to pass the barrier operator before closing with high risk of hitting the barrier’s arm.
To prevent these intrepid drivers from entering improperly, there is a configuration known as “TRAP” for these barrier operators. This configuration is one hundred percent safe and able to prevent unauthorized entry of a second vehicle. It consists of the installation of two barrier operators in front of the grille gate with enough space between them to fit only one vehicle.
In this configuration, when the first barrier opens, an authorized vehicle can drive into the space between the two barriers, leaving an unauthorized vehicle blocked by the first barrier outside. Once the first barrier closes, the second barrier automatically opens in front of the authorized vehicle, letting it immediately pass. The unauthorized vehicle will not have an opportunity to cross!
